I love art museums for many reasons, including the sense of contemplation they give me. In recent years, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to find that gardens and outdoor spaces have a similar effect. An unintentional but clear theme emerged this year: garden visits. Stops included the San Antonio Botanical Garden (San Antonio, TX), Wildflower Center (Austin, TX), Hillwood Estate, Museum, and Gardens (Washington, D.C.), United States Botanic Garden (Washington, D.C.), and the Duke Gardens (Durham, NC).
Here are some favorites that emerged.
